According to a recent ODOT report, from 2011-20, women of color accounted for a paltry 2% of union and nonunion construction apprenticeships. This creates various barriers to success, including increasing the probability of racial microaggressions and gender stereotyping, as well as making it difficult to build a community of support. That doesn’t even take into account how things such as not being able to afford child care or having a felony on your record can prevent you from getting your foot in the door.
